5 Ways to Bring the Outdoors In

Fall and winter are the perfect times to bring some touches of nature into your home. A natural object in each room can represent the outdoor world and all that it conveys’adventure, calm, and even a new perspective on life. Here are five easy ways to bring the natural world into your home.

Rocks and pebbles—A collection of found rocks carries the earth element into the home. Small rocks and pebbles can be arranged in a circle or spiral on a little-used tabletop or displayed in a glass container. It’s nice to have them easily accessible for handling.

Plants—Houseplants can improve air quality and your health (patients in hospital rooms recover more quickly when plants are present). Taking care of the plants promotes nurturing, which can make us feel good as well.

Fresh cut flowers—Cut flowers can liven up any room. Try buying a mixed bouquet and splitting up the flowers into five or so small vases around the house.

Fountain—A small fountain can create instant relaxation with the sound of moving water. Often fountains come with small pebbles that you can arrange for an added natural touch.

Seashells and sand—Like rocks, seashells make a beautiful presentation arranged on a tabletop or in a glass jar. Try putting sand in a shallow container with the shells on top to encourage playing.
