The Magic of Silence

We’ve all heard and used the word awesome. We may have enjoyed an awesome hotdog or seen an awesome movie, and that reflects a positive experience we feel really good about. Nothing wrong with that. But how do we describe a rare personal experience that truly inspires awe? 

A recent trip to the pristine wilderness of Alaska provided a number of such encounters. One was Tracy Arm Fjord—thirty miles long and capped by the Sawyer Glaciers.Sometimes language—with perhaps the exception of poetry—fails to approach the feeling of connection with something larger. Silence, and possibly a photograph, may be more eloquent.
